eCub for Windows
eCub is a cross-platform tool for creating EPUB and MobiPocket books. EPUB is become a popular e-book standard and is open and free for all to implement. EPUB files can be read by MobiPocket, Adobe Digital Editions, FBReader, Stanza, the Sony Reader, and many other readers and applications. MobiPocket books can be read on desktop platforms, mobile platforms and the Amazon Kindle e-book reader.
eCub offers a convenient way to import text and XHTML files and create all the necessary components of an EPUB file. It makes it easy to view and edit files, and check the generated EPUB, using external tools. It can also generate audio files from your book content using eSpeak and other text-to-speech software.
A wizard allows you to create a new project in seconds, with options for generating a table of contents, a cover page, and a title page. You can create a simple cover design image using templates and a simple design tool. Then you can compile, check and try out the EPUB at the click of a button.
To summarize, this is what eCub does:
- Creates unencrypted EPUB files from text or XHTML files;
- Creates MobiPocket files if you have the mobigen application;
- allows editing of the text or XHTML files with a simple internal editor or designated external editors;
- helps you create a simple cover design image;
- optionally creates title, content and cover pages;
- can be run from the command line as part of a build script;
- can be used in portable mode (data and settings are stored locally);
- can convert your book content to audio files (WAV or MP3).
eCub does not do WYSIWYG or syntax-highlighted editing, and it currently only produces unencrypted EPUB and MobiPocket output. It's likely to be useful for simple projects, such as novels, where using an expensive tool such as Adobe's InDesign is overkill.
We're providing eCub free of charge, on Windows, Linux, Mac, FreeBSD and Solaris, for personal and commercial use. However, eCub is not an open source application.
for Windows NT/W2K/XP/Vista/Windows 7
NOTE: Vista/Windows 7 users: if when running eCub you see error messages about a resource load failure, please install eCub into a folder other than Program Files, or adjust permissions for the Program Files folder.

eKitaab
eKitaab is an eBook Catalog Manager software to manage large collections of ebooks. eKitaab allows you to read books in their native readers on the desktop, or on mobile devices, though it is not an ebook reader.
eKitaab displays a list of all books you have, with their titles, authors, description and a photo of the book covers. It also allows you to easily categorize the books by creating Reading Lists, and adding Tags. eKitaab downloads all information from the Internet, based on the ISBN of the book, or by searching by author or title. eKitaab is designed to be extremely safe for the eBooks... the eBooks themselves are never changed. eKitaab stores basic information about the book by changing the filename to include the title, author and ISBN. The other information is downloaded from the Internet and not stored locally (but caching is implemented, to reduce repeated downloads).
This has a lot of benefits for future usage:
- No proprietary format, no database
- Since the filename themselves contain the ISBN, all other details can be downloaded at view-time
- If you send the ebooks to someone else with eKitaab, they can import this file into their copy of EKitaab with any retagging. - If you want to use another eBook manager software in the future, there is no constraint of data export.
Also when you "check out" a file from eKitaab, it gives you an option to rename the file in more user-readable format, for use on mobile devices or another computer. This can be used for mass-export as well.
Features
- Browse and read your entire ebook collection by Title, Author, ISBN, Book Description, Book Covers,
- Reading Lists - you can create multiple Lists,
- Tags - you can define multiple Tags
All details including Title, Author, ISBN, Descriptions and Cover Details are automatically populated from searches from Amazon. You can also enter the Title, Author and ISBN manually if you know them. You can launch books from within eKitaab to read them in their default viewer.
These formats are currently recognised for loading into the manager: TXT (text), PRC (Mobipocket), DOC (Mobipocket or Word), HTM/HTML (HTML), PDF (Adobe Acrobat), RGO (Repligo), RTF (Rich Text), LIT (Microsoft Reader), CHM (Microsoft Compressed HTML), DJVU (DjVu Format)
You need minimum Java SE 6.0 to run eKitaab.
