Windows Basics
|
|
Windows Basics, a free E-Book for Windows users. Here is a free E-Book on Windows basics. The idea is to deal with practical aspects of using Windows rather than discuss the mundane stuff and make it dull. Just look at the teaser questions and you will get the idea of what type of things we discuss here.
Teaser questions:
I have created a note file "Things to do.txt" using Windows Notepad. How can I start it quickly from Windows desktop without using the Start Menu?
How many different ways are there to see the files on my disks? If I use "My Computer" in Windows XP to see the disks, everything appears in one window. I would like to see the disks on the left and the files on the right. How to do that?
I am suddenly short of disk space on a drive. How can I find out the largest folders on that drive so that I know which ones to clean to get more space?
Where can I get more software like Notepad to manage my notes?
Why do I need to install some software before using it? Why can't they give me ready to run programs that don't need any installation?

Windows Basics and Tips
|
Here is a free E-Book on Windows basics. The idea is to deal with practical aspects of using Windows rather than discuss the mundane stuff and make it dull. Let's leave the control panel and device manager to the geeks and make sure that you know some tips on getting the best out of Windows. To keep the things interesting, I will assume that you can start programs in Windows and can create your own documents. You also know how to locate running programs in the task bar at the bottom. If you know that much you are good to go.

yBook2
|
I wrote this ebook reading software to provide a 'paper book' experience on the computer screen: For a start, you get two pages side-by-side instead of just one page in the middle of the screen. (Although you can press '1' or '2' to switch between double and single page mode) Next, the pages turn when you click them, just like a real book. Finally, you can also select a textured background to make the pages look like real paper. yBook will read html files, text files, rtf files and pdb/prc files (Palm document format).
Features:
- Runs on Windows XP or later
- Display your book on side-by-side or single pages.
- Resize the pages, adjust the margins, set text and paper colour.
- Text, html and RTF reader
- PDB and PRC reader (non-encrypted formats only)
- ePub reader
- Search for words or phrases
- Automatic bookmarks
- Text sizes from tiny to HUGE
- No zooming, panning or scrolling
- Direct download of all Gutenberg titles, with index.
- Internationalised menus - Spanish, German, etc
- Completely free to use: No registration, no adware, no spyware.
