Animata

Animata is an open source real-time animation software, designed to create animations, interactive background projections for concerts, theatre and dance performances.
The peculiarity of the software is that the animation - the movement of the puppets, the changes of the background - is generated in real-time, making continuous interaction possible. This ability also permits that physical sensors, cameras or other environmental variables can be attached to the animation of characters, creating a cartoon reacting to its environment. For example, it is quite simple to create a virtual puppet band reacting to live audio input, or set up a scene of drawn characters controlled by the movement of dancers.
In contrast with the traditional 3D animation programs, creating characters in Animata is quite simple and takes only a few minutes. On the basis of the still images, which serve as the skeleton of the puppets, we produce a network of triangles, some parts of which we link with the bone structure. The movement of the bones is based on a physical model, which allows the characters to be easily moved.

Animate

ANIMATE takes a series of animation “frames” and strings them together as with celluloid film to make a “movie”. This may be an animated real-life photograph or a flashing poster-colour sign.
The basis for these animations is GIF - the GRAPHICS INTERCHANGE FORMAT. This alone will support animation. It is true that there is the official MPEG system of digital TV, but few browsers support it.
GIF gives an automatic three-fold compression by limiting the choice of colours to 256, that is to say, one byte per colour rather than the three bytes in 16-megacolour BMP files. The subtlety of a photo can be lost, so always work with BMP files until the photo has been cut down to the smallest size. Converting to GIF at the last minute ensures that the palette (see right) contains colours that are actually used.
To obtain the three-fold compression, the palette - also called the colour look-up-table - has to be sent with the file. This costs 768 bytes for 256 colours.

AnimationXe

AnimationXe is a many-sided and helpful application with the purpose of managing image files. You can choose to view up to 56 files at once on your screen as well as only one image or images in a slideshow.
AnimationXe can read the file formats bmp, gif, jpg, jpeg, wmf, emf, ico, dib and save bmp and jpg.
