BringWinTop
|
|
BringWndTop is an application for manipulating windows . It can bring a window to top position so that the other windows can not block it even if those windows get the mouse click or called get focus. An example is when you are editing a document with some other document opened in an another window and needed refered to when editing. When you do editing , the reference document window will be covered by your edit window so that you can not see it. With BringWinTop, you may simply set the reference doc window to be the top one so that no window can cover it any more. The functionality with this program includes: Bring window to top , Release window from top, Bring window to front ( make the window seen but still be coverable).
Requirement : Windows 95/98/NT4.0.

bsMag
|
bsMag - Sreen magnifier software. Shows a portion of the desktop around the mouse cursor in a resizable window. Custom zoom factor. Also shows the mouse cursor position and the color value of the pixel under the cursor.
Originally I designed it for multimedia development, and later added the functions of colorvalue display for web-development. The idea was coming from a software I have seen on a Silicon Graphics workstation. First version run on Windows 3.1, the second is a 32-bit application.
I decided to publish it as freeware, because I have seen someone want money for such a software. To develop it was an afternoon (including Windows API-browsing).

bug.n
|
bug.n is a software collection for tiling window management.
The benefit of tiling window management is, that you do not have to move and resize windows manually to get the wanted contents visible and in order.
bug.n arranges the windows dynamically, which means, that recently opened or closed windows are immediately included in the layout causing all windows to be rearranged not leaving any partially overlapping windows or empty screen space.
OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Linux, BSD.

BugMe!
|
|
BugMe! is a yellow-sticky-type reminder for your PC. BugMe! lets you quickly jot a note, then set an alarm for when the note should pop-up and bug you to do what you need to do.
BugMe! is great for when you need to remember something in an hour or so and don't want to bother with the overhead of writing a reminder on a piece of paper. BugMe! alarms can be set for a range of intervals, and can be edited & snoozed to be shown in later times.
Simply choose when you want to be bugged and let BugMe! do the rest!

Gestural interfaces and Fitt's Law
I was reading some stuff on asktog.com about Fitt's Law, and thinking about ways to make buttons easy to hit. Fitt's law says that the edges of the screen are easiest to hit (especially the corners), and this usually means you should put the most important things on the edges or corners of the screen.
The idea is used in the Mac menubar, so when you push the mouse to the top of the screen, you don't have to slow down to hit a button. Tog claims that Mac users are 5x faster than Windows users at getting to a menu as a result. Windows doesn't use these concepts very much, or very well.
I was thinking about the Back and Forward buttons in my browser, and I decided that the left and right edges would make really nice big buttons for those things.
I got this idea of "bumping" the mouse on each side as a kind of gestural interface for browsing, and made a program that does that when Internet Explorer is on top and you bump the edge. Some of my friends are now addicted... All you do is bash the mouse pointer against either side of the screen, and the topmost browser window navigates in the appropriate direction.
Another example of Windows dumbness: the taskbar at the bottom of the screen is about 3 pixels from satisfying Fitt's Law (they just missed.) I decided that you shouldn't be able to click below or left of the Start button, and same for the taskbar buttons. When running the bumper app, the mouse movement is now constrained all the time to exclude these regions. (Caveat: You can't use "Auto Hide" for the taskbar or things will break.)
This program is invisible, which means that you should run it once, and if all goes well, nothing will visibly happen. Never fear, since in fact, immediately afterwards, your browser and taskbar will have new superpowers.
