Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR)

Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) is an audio data compression scheme optimized for speech coding. AMR was adopted as the standard speech codec by 3GPP in October 1998 and is now widely used in GSM and UMTS. It uses link adaptation to select from one of eight different bit rates based on link conditions.
AMR is an audio format which is extensively used in mobile devices in various applications ranging from normal audio player/recorder to VoIP kind of applications. AMR can be further categorized as: AMR-NB( NarrowBand ) and AMR-WB( WideBand ).
AMR-WB ensures that speech quality is optimized in a mobile station by verifying its ability to determine when to request a change to another codec with either more or less error correction and protection as signal quality changes. AMR-NB (Adaptive Multi-Rate Narrowband) is a vocoder employed in low-bitrate applications like mobile phones.
AMR is also a file format for storing spoken audio using the AMR codec. Many modern mobile telephone handsets will allow you to store short recordings in the AMR format, it should be remembered that AMR is a speech format and is unlikely to give ideal results for other audio. The common filename extension is .amr.

AdPlug

AdPlug is a free, cross-platform, hardware independent AdLib sound player library, mainly written in C++ and released under the LGPL. AdPlug plays sound data, originally created for the AdLib (OPL2) and Sound Blaster (Dual OPL2/OPL3) audio boards, directly from its original format on top of an emulator or by using the real hardware. No OPL chip is required for playback.
AdPlug itself is just the backend to many different audio player frontends, which are also being developed here. There are plugins for popular audio players, like Winamp and XMMS, as well as stand-alone players for many different systems available.

Adsyn32

Adsyn32 generates audio waveforms using Additive Harmonic Synthesis (AHS). AHS builds complex sounds by adding together simple components, usually sine-waves of related frequencies, known as partials. With careful control of the partials amplitude envelopes, it is possible to create dynamic sounds of great subtlety (as shown in much of the work of Wendy Carlos ). It is not an easy technique, and takes time to produce results, particularly in comparison with modern sampled wavetable methods. Adsyn32 is an attempt to make the process easier. This version of the program is released as freeware.
Unlimited number of partials
Partials based on wavetable containing sine, fractal (1/f distribution), or random data
Partials may be tuned to natural (n x fundamental) or un-natural frequencies
Partials may be set to any phase
Amplitude envelopes with unlimited nodes, graphically edited
Any number of white noise and fractal noise (1/f distribution) partials
Waves saved as Windows wave format RIFF (.wav) files
