Across Lite is an excellent program for crossword buffs. It allows you to solve virtually thousands of puzzles in one of two ways. First, you can play the puzzles that are included in this download. Many more of these special files are available for download at the author's Web site. Second, you can go to many other Web sites, (including washingtonpost.com) and solve additional puzzles on-line. Indeed, Across Lite functions as a standalone program as well as a "helper" to Internet Explorer, Navigator and other supported browsers. Regardless of how you play, this program makes crossword puzzles much more enjoyable.
Across Lite displays crossword puzzles on its user-friendly interface. Additionally, there are panels dedicated to the clues that are in the across and down columns. By clicking a clue, the program highlights the appropriate section on the grid. You can then type in a word using either a "pen" or "pencil," depending on your confidence. As you enter letters on the grid, Across Lite intuitively highlights the clue for the opposite crossword. Though you'll find it very easy to solve these crosswords on your PC, you may print them out.
Across Lite is a nice alternative to newspaper crosswords, mostly because you don't have to wait a week to receive the solution. The program can reveal correct, incorrect and selected letters. If you'd rather not spoil the puzzle, it can simply indicate if there are any correct letters.
